Opening Day

It's spring, and this week in San Francisco has felt more like summer- a real summer, not our foggy San Francisco Julys. Perfect timing for the Giants home opener.

The baseball stadium is built right on the water, overlooking McCovey cove- the inlet to an old shipping canal, which is now full of yachts, kayaks and paddleboards on game days. 

We headed out with five Oru Kayaks, and quickly encountered two more of our customers taking there own boats out for the game. For a traditional ballgame lunch, we tested out a new Oru Kayak accessory- a mini barbecue, riding on the front deck. Our standard deck rigging strap worked well to hold it on snugly, and we were soon handing out hot dogs to boaters throughout the cove.

The Giants won easily, and we didn't have to worry about beating traffic on the way out. The paddle back to our launch ramp takes us through one of our favorite San Francisco paddling spots, a narrow channel between to massive decomissioned navy ships- it's like an urban version of a Utah slot canyon.
